The Rayne Institute at King’s College London is home to leading clinical and laboratory research groups specialising in haematology and advanced therapies. Multiple departments, including the Department of Haematology, the Haematology Biobank and the Gene Therapy Vector Facility (GTVF), rely on secure, long-term cryogenic storage to preserve thousands of valuable biological samples.

When the institute’s existing liquid nitrogen (LN2) storage infrastructure began to show signs of ageing, a major upgrade project was launched. The goal was to modernise the facility, improve safety, increase storage capacity and reduce LN2 consumption, while ensuring ongoing protection of critical samples.

The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is an integrated, tertiary establishment with 10 colleges and research institutions spread around Inverness, the Highlands and Islands, Moray and Perthshire regions. The university’s Division of Biomedical Sciences conducts a broad spectrum of research, from schizophrenia genetics and immunology through to studies into melanoma and mesothelioma.

Bright Biotech is a start-up pioneering the use of chloroplast-based protein expression systems to produce high-value proteins at scale. 

The Botnar Institute for Musculoskeletal Sciences is the largest research centre investigating the causes, pathways and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions in Europe. It forms part of the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford, an internationally recognised institute where scientists work alongside clinicians to enhance translational research. The centre’s multidisciplinary team is composedof around 350 staff and postgraduatestudents, who have access to state- of-the-art facilities – from expansive laboratories to GMP-compliant clean rooms – that help them make meaningful advances in therapies to transform the lives of patients.
